Ram Khamhaeng, the Great King of Sukhothai

Ram Khamhaeng was the third king of the Sukhothai Kingdom (by some historians seen as the precedent of the modern kingdom of Thailand). He ruled during the period of 1279-1298, in what is seen as the most prosperous era of the kingdom. Besides being seen as a great ruler of the kingdom, he is also credited with the creation of the Thai alphabet and establishing Theravada Buddhism as the state religion of the kingdom. read more
